Lance is a knowledgeable and experienced trial attorney, practicing law for over 20 years in Texas. Throughout his career, he has successfully handled hundreds of cases with a broad range from DWI to capital murder. As a skilled litigator, he has represented clients in civil cases such as personal injury, contract disputes and employment matters. Well known throughout Collin County, Lance is often consulted by his colleagues for his legal expertise.
Early in his profession, Lance handled banking and bankruptcy matters. His career took a turn when at the request of a judge, he handled a criminal defense case. This experience enlightened him to the fact that some arrested individuals are in fact innocent and in need of representation by a good lawyer. This sparked an interest in criminal defense, and in addition to working civil cases, Lance spends much of his time representing accused citizens in Collin County. In 1999, he formed the law firm that is now Baxter, Gibbs, Robison and Henderson.
Lance graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in finance. At TCU, he was a member of the business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. In 1986, Lance Baxter received his Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. While there, he participated in moot court and was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity.
Collin County benefits from Attorney Baxter's involvement in the legal community. He has served as a part-time hearing master for the Mental Health Court since 1996, presiding over thousands of hearings to determine need for involuntary commitment to a state mental health facility. He has served on the board of directors for the Plano Bar Association, the Collin Country Bar Association, the Collin County Bench Bar Foundation and the Collin County Criminal Defense Lawyer Association (President 2005-2006). Lance participates in many bar association programs, but particularly enjoys mentoring through the Collin County 8th grade mock trial competition and the "Now You are 18" program.
Lance is an active member of the First Christian Church of McKinney. He has served on the area board of directors for the Christian Youth Foundation and the Disciples Foundation of Dallas, Inc. He is also a board member of the Dallas Chapter of the TCU Alumni Association. Lance likes a good game of golf, but especially enjoys attending school and church activities with his son and two beautiful daughters.
